Three forest officials caught red-handed while accepting bribe
Three officials of the forest department attached to the Keri-Sanquelim range forest office at Tulshimala-Paryem were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of `10,000, by a team of anti-corruption bureau of the state vigilance department.
According to information provided by ACB officials, the incharge of the range forest office, Mr Mahanand Paryekar, deputy range forest officer, Mr Eknath Soiroji, round forester and Mr Subhash Araundekar, forest guard, were caught when the ACB team swooped on them while accepting bribe. The ACB officials further informed that the trio had demanded the amount to release a Canter pick-up truck bearing registration number MH-07 – C-5248, which was seized earlier by the forest officials on November 2, while transporting bamboos from Mayem village to Kudchirem.
A complaint against the forest officials was lodged with the ACB by the person who was transporting bamboos and accordingly a trap was laid. An offence under Section 7 read with Section 13(1)(d) under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against the forest officials. [NT]
