Tilak stadium set to host I-League
Tilak Stadium is all set to host the second leg of I-League, which will commence with a round 20 match between Salgaocar FC and Mumbai FC under floodlights on March 23.
The Sports Minister, Mr Ramesh Tawadkar, along with the officials of Sports Authority of Goa, visited the under-construction stadium on Wednesday and inspected the renovation works which are expected to be completed within a few days.
“Tilak Stadium is ready to host second leg matches of the I-League. The inauguration of the upgraded stadium will be done on March 23 before the Salgaocar-Mumbai FC match,” Mr Tawadkar told this paper.
Mr Tawadkar inspected the newly installed floodlights and the new seating arrangements for the guests in the stadium, which he said will be utilised by the players participating in the Lusofonia Games for practice matches and pre-tournament training.
The Sports Minister had earlier visited two other Lusofonia Games venues, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda and the new sports facility at Bambolim. Mr Tawadkar disclosed that about 25 per cent of renovation of the Nehru Stadium has been completed by spending Rs 46.37 crores. He further informed that at Bambolim, around Rs 13 crore have been spent out of the total sanctioned Rs 56 crores, to lay 400-metre and 200-metre running tracks for the Games, which will be held in November.
“All the renovation works at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and laying of running tracks at Bambolim ground is expected to be completed by September-October. We want the stadiums to be ready as early as possible so as to start the Games-specific preparations,” Mr
