Tillari affected demand written assurances from Maharashtra, Goa

Rejecting Sawantwadi MLA Deepak Kesarkar’s appeal to withdraw the agitation, the Tillari affected people on Sunday demanded written and clear assurances from the Maharashtra and Goa governments.
According to sources, Kesarkar met the agitators and appealed to withdraw the agitation, as Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to solve the problem and demands of the agitators, when he had a meeting with NCP leader Sharad Pawar, who also assured him to solve the problem and release the water.
However, the agitators demanded written assurance from both the governments and stated that they will be satisfied with one-time settlement or jobs.
“We want clear written assurance from Goa and Maharashtra governments about our demands and then only we will withdraw our agitation,” said Ramnath Gauns, a member of Tillari affected villagers.
Meanwhile, Goa WRD is making arrangements to provide water to Sal farmers, which is nearing completion. “We are likely to be in a position to start pumping water the river at Sal to the canal, which will be supplied to the nearby farmers,” said WRD assistant engineer P V Shreekumar.
Sal Sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut has called a special Gram Sabha on January 6 to discuss on the matter. [H]
