Tillari: Goa to give OTS to affected

Goa will be contributing to a one-time settlement ( OTS) for the people displaced by the Tillari project in Maharashtra.
Confirming this, chief minister Manohar Parrikar told mediapersons on Tuesday, "In principle, we have agreed." Parrikar said the exact terms are yet to be decided, and will be done by the committee.
Maharashtra water resources minister Sunil Tatkare told mediapersons in Panaji that the Tillari people who had been agitating over the issue for the past few weeks, will be given a one- time settlement and that both governments had agreed on this.
The measure was decided after a meeting of the Tillari irrigation project control board officials. The agitators had been demanding that the Goa government provide them with jobs. The displaced persons have already been rehabilitated by the Maharashtra government with plots of land.
Tatkare said a committee comprising chief engineers from the water resources departments of both states as well as the two district collectors from each district concerned of both states and other officials has been set up to decide on various aspects, including the number and quantum of payment to the beneficiaries. He said the district collectors will finalize the list of beneficiaries and the process will be complete by March 31, 2013.  [TOI]
