According to information from Colva police, around 14 tourists from Tamil Nadu arrived in Margao in two vehicles on Sunday and booked hotel rooms at Mungul. The incident occurred late Sunday night when Madhan, along with some members of the group, visited a shack at Colva beach. Once at the shack, the group ordered beer, and as it was not served immediately, the tourists entered into an argument with the waiter. Later, when they were having their drinks, one glass broke, which led to further arguments between the waiter at the shack and the tourists. The group of tourists from Tamil Nadu was asked to compensate the shack for the damage done which further aggravated the situation.

Police sources further said that Madhan was beaten by two persons believed to be bouncers. Police said that Madhan was stabbed with a knife on the chest after which he started bleeding. He was later brought out of the shack and 108 ambulance was informed following which Madhan was taken to the Hospicio Hospital. However, he was declared dead at the hospital.

Police said that on receiving information about the incident, a team was sent to the site of the offence and an offence registered. The police are yet to recover the knife used in the assault. The Superintendent of Police, South Goa, Mr Shekhar Prabhudessai said that the body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital for postmortem. He said that the postmortem report would reveal further details in the case. In the meanwhile, the Colva police have collected information and recorded some statements.
