To-be-centenarian Lambert Mascarenhas

To-be-centenarian Lambert Mascarenhas. Lambert Mascarenhas beams brightly on the morn of another birthday… he completed 98 on September 17, 2012. I clicked the former joint editor of Goa's first English daily "The Navhind Times", and founder and former editor of English monthly "Goa Today" seen at his Dona Paula residence in Goa today. To his right is his popular "Lamas" signature under which he scripted some of the most rib-tickling articles. Lambert has already penned his last novel… which might see the light of the day very soon. His masterpiece, of course, remains "Sorrowing Lies My Land", the unique account of Goa, Goans and their predicaments. The erudite writer from Colva in Salcette has excelled at journalism, music and singing besides being a very patriotic Goan, who fought for the freedom of his beloved Goa. In fact, we had vowed not to marry until Goa was liberated from the Portuguese colonial rule. Immediately after Goa's Liberation in December 1961, we tied the knot with Dr Jolly, to live happily thereafter… to this day. Ad Multos Anos, Mr Mascarenhas. Lambert's books: "In the womb of saudade", Stories of Goan Life, illustrated by Mario Miranda. Rupa Paperback. "Sorrowing Lies My Land". A play too… Another picture when Lambert was 94 and had released his last novel "Heartbreak Passage" at the International Centre at Dona Paula on August 5, 2009.: www.flickr.com/photos/52243088@N00/3792598978/  (Photo Courtesy By Joel D'souza)
