The Department of Tourism is racing against time to set up 25 kiosks to handle regulation and queue system for water sports operations, which is required under the Water Sports policy, and has to be complied with before the next High Court hearing.
Already facing a contempt petition in the court, the Department of Tourism is hoping to float tenders to appoint an agency to build a software that would be operational at the beach kiosks, for water sports operations.
“Tenders would be invited by the end of this month,” said a top official in the tourism ministry. “Meanwhile we have asked the Goa Handicraft Corporation to design the kiosk which would be placed before the government for approval,” he informed.
Once approved, the tourism department is planning to purchase at least 20-25 kiosks from the handicraft corporation itself.
“These kiosks will be fully equipped for multi-functional tasks and will not only serve as ticketing booths but as information centres and police check posts,” he said, adding that they would also be air conditioned considering the fact that they would be located on the sand and exposed to the sun.
According to this top official in the ministry, the tourism department would be handling the system operations until everything is put in place. Staff would also be recruited for this. An agency would thereafter be appointed to take over the job, he disclosed.
“Presently, the water sports operators are working out the queue systems themselves,” the official said.
The department has already begun conducting a feasibility study on locations for setting up the kiosks, inventory of water sports operators and equipment and other data required to facilitate designing of the software.
The official said that the kiosk would also serve as cash collection points and a system would be worked out for crediting ticket revenue to the respective water sports operators.
The department is also working out a uniform fee structure which would be sent to the government for approval.
