Tourists freely booze at Palolem on ‘Dry Day’
October 2 may have officially been designated a ‘Dry Day’, but that did not stop some visitors at Palolem Beach from consuming alcohol on the beach.
Aware of the 'Dry Day' notification on Tuesday, some tourists had come fully equipped with stocks of alcohol to enjoy their visit at the beach.
While people, especially the youth, were seen consuming beer inside their tourist buses, vans and cars, some foreign tourists and visitors were seen consuming hard liquor on the beach.
However, some visitors had covered liquor bottles with paper to avoid getting into trouble with authorities.
Incidentally, the Dry Day did not deter tourists from visiting Palolem Beach and lifeguards had a tough time keeping watch on the many swimmers in the area.
Meanwhile, all retail and wholesale liquor outlets in Canacona, including Palolem and Agonda, were closed on Tuesday. Restaurants along the beaches even removed liquor bottles from their showcases and refrained from selling alcohol to their customers. [H]
