Tuem locals flay rates for acquired land
Aggrieved by meagre compensation of Rs 12.50 per square metre to land losers for nearly 4 lakh square metres acquired by the State government for the extension of Tuem Industrial Estate, the Gram Sabha resolved not to part any more land.
The villagers at the gram sabha strongly protested against the compensation of Rs 25 per sq mtr by the government, which is shared between the government, who is the land owner, and lease holders who are poor farmers of the village.
The poor farmers would be entitled for Rs 12.50 per sq mtr of land.
Other land losers, who own prime land along the Tuem-Pernem main road, were given compensation of Rs 100 per sq mtr, where the market rate in not less than Rs 2,000 per sq mtr.
The agitated land losers brought to the notice of Sarpanch Kannaik that the leases were allotted to their forefathers during the Portuguese rule and for many families it was the only livelihood.
The villagers decided to support the cause of land losers and unanimously resolved that the government should consider awarding additional compensation to the land losers on line with additional compensation awarded to land losers of Mopa airport, which is about 10 kms from Tuem Village.
The locals also condemned the statement made by Health Minister and local MLA Laximikant Parsekar that the land in question was acquired by the previous government. The villagers brought to the notice of the gram sabha that the award was passed on May 25, 2012, after the new BJP government came into power.
The land losers also brought to the notice of the sarpanch that the petitions made to the offices of chief minister and health minister have not been responded for the last four months.
The gram sabha also resolved not to part any more land in the village for government project and fight against such move by the government for more acquisition.
The sarpanch assured the land losers to take delegation to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Other issues discussed at the gram sabha include development and border demarcation between Pernem Municipality and the panchayat. [H]
