Tuyekar reappears in Siolim, escapes

The accused in the Assagao murder was allegedly spotted in Siolim again but managed to give locals the slip.

Sarpanch of Siolim-Sodiem Nilesh Vaigankar said that at around 10.30am on Tuesday Ranjit Tuyekar, wanted for the murder of a 19-year-old girl near Assagao, was spotted in the cashew plantation of the deputy sarpanch of Siolim-Sodiem at Tropa, locals chased him but he manage to escape.

On Wednesday, while Vaigankar was returning from a football match at 7pm, his wife called him saying that Tuenkar had been sighted in front of their house situated at Aframeto-Tropa. Hearing the news, he rushed to the house as only two lady members including his wife were at home. He later called the youth from the village.

"Around 150 villagers gathered with torch lights and surrounded the area the suspect was seen in, however the side facing the main road remained open and he probably managed to escape into the fields under the cover of darkness. We searched for him till 11pm but could not nab him," Vaigankar said. "Police are not doing enough. They should get a dog squad and nab the accused," he added. [TOI]
