Two arrested in Davorlim assault case after a chase
Maina Curtorim police on Wednesday arrested two persons, Ibrahim Saju, 24, a resident of Quepem, and Mehboob Shaikh, 32, a resident of Betim, in connection with a case registered by them on February 16, after two persons were assaulted by a group of five led by Saju at Davorlim.
Maina Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam informed that a team of the Margao town police noticed Saju and Shaikh moving in a car on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday morning and nabbed them after a chase.
On February 16, the five accused, including the arrested duo, came to Davorlim in a car and first assaulted Altaf Nandihalli by hitting him with an iron rod on his head. They then beat up Mehboob Pathan before fleeing from the scene. Nandihalli was rushed to the GMC, Bambolim, and is still in a critical condition, police sources said.
Explaining the motive behind the assault, PI Kadam said that Saju had been divorced by his wife and he suspected Nandihalli, his wife's cousin, to be involved. With a view to settle scores, Saju assaulted Nandihalli.
Kadam said that investigations have revealed that Saju has a criminal past and was arrested in several cases, including for charges under attempt to murder. [TOI]
