Two cruise liners berth at MPT with 2500 passengers


Two cruise liners carrying a combined 2500 passengers and crew berthed at the Mormugao Port Trust on Thursday and Friday, while three cruise ships are expected to dock at the port during the third week of December.
In a press note, MPT Chairman P Mara Pandiyan stated that the season’s second ship ‘Clipper Odyssey’ was berthed on Thursday at the Breakwater Mole Berth, carrying 57 foreign tourists and 71 crew members.
On Friday, ‘Aida Diva’, one of the largest cruise liners, berthed at the Breakwater Cruise Terminal carrying about 1,814 passengers, mostly from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, in addition to around 600 crew members.
The passengers were welcomed personally by Pandiyan, MPT Deputy Chairman Biplav Kumar, senior port officials along with officials of the tourism department and representatives of the vessel agents and tour operators.
On the occasion, Goan traditional dances, songs and various other entertainment programmes arranged by the tourism department were presented for the tourists.
Stating that MPT is expected to receive more cruise ships during this financial year, Pandiyan informed that MPT plans to receive three cruise ships during the third week of December. [H]
