Two held for theft of mobiles from shop
The Verna police arrested two persons who were involved in a theft of mobile handsets from a mobile store located at Pirni, Verna, during the night of January 30.
The Verna police disclosed the names of the two accused as Winger Franklin Coelho (27), a resident of Firgebhat, Goa Velha and Arjun Suresh Kambli (28), native of Thane, Maharashtra and presently residing at Nagoa, Verna.
Police informed that the duo was nabbed by the Kapurbhawdi police in Maharashtra, while they were in a process of selling the stolen mobile handsets to a shop owner.
The shop owner informed the police as he suspected something fishy in the behaviour of the two who were trying to sell the phones to him. The police then laid a trap for the two and nabbed them. On questioning, they spilled the beans and confessed to their involvement in the theft that was reported in Pirni, Verna. The Kapurbhawdi police then cross checked the IMI numbers of the stolen mobile handsets confirmed that they were the ones stolen from Goa.
The Kapurbhawdi police intimated the Verna police who in turn took over the custody of the duo. It may be recalled that the duo had affected entry into the mobile store at Pirni, Verna and had stolen mobile handsets and mobile chargers, total amounting to around Rs 1.50 lakh.
The accused have been remanded to 4-day police custody. [NT]
