Uguem, Wadem panchayat staff unpaid for months
The staff employed at Uguem and Kurdi-Wadem panchayats in Sanguem have been without pay since the last several months.
Sources at Uguem Panchayat informed that the peon, sweeper and clerk working at the panchayat office are not paid their salaries for the last six months, while at Kurdi Wadem Panchayat, the clerk and peon are not paid their salaries since June 2012.
An official at Kurdi Wadem Panchayat informed that the panchayat had cleared their salaries for March, April and May on August 25. However, the salaries for last six months are not paid till date.
Acting Uguem Sarpanch Amey Naik admitted that the staff are yet to receive their salaries for the last six months and attributed the delay in payment for not sanctioning of grant by the government.
Naik informed that the salaries will be cleared immediately after receiving grant from the Director of Panchayat.
The situation at Kurdi Wadem is no different either. Former sarpanch and present Panchayat Gauri Gaonkar also attributed the delay caused in payment of staff salaries for non-sanctioning of grant by the government in time. [H]
