Unruly mob thrashes man mistaking him for Tuyekar
A mob of over 1000 people from Arambol on Sunday thrashed one Mr Mahadev Jadhav whom the irate crowd mistaking him for Ranjit Tuyekar, a murder accused who has been on the run. The injured has been admitted to the GMC for severe injuries.
According to available information, locals spotted two persons in the hill at Ketkar Waddo in Arambol. Soon an alarm was raised and over 1000 angry villagers gathered surrounding the hill.
The people have been peeved about the helplessness of the police in nabbing the fugitive Tuyekar.
At around 2 p.m. mistaking Mr Jadhav for Tuyekar the mob caught hold of Mr Jadhav and began thrashing him. He was also tied to a pole and beaten up mercilessly.
The agitated crowd grilled Mr Jadhav and found two small knives, a cash of around Rs 4000 and some few more items from him. This recovery made the mob believe that the person caught must be Tuyekar and they continued thrashing him.
The mob was angry all the more so because just three policemen had come to the spot. So the mob did not spare the police and began hurling abuses at them forcing the police constables to make a retreat.
Finally, at around 4 p.m. the police came back with reinforcement. The locals gave vent to their ire against the police inaction saying that there was complete breakdown of law and order.
In the melee, Mr Jadhav’s accomplice fled from the scene.
Mr Jadhav has been shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for medical treatment
The situation is still tense in the area.
It is reliably learnt that a police team from Anjuna has left for Kulu Manali, Himachal Pradesh, as it is believed that the accused Tuyekar after playing hide and seek for the last few days fled Goa and has gone northwards with the help of a Nepali. [NT]
