Vasco drub Goa Velha
NRB Vasco Sports Club drubbed lowly placed Goa Velha Sports Club 3- 0 in a GFA Kingfisher Pro League football encounter at panchayat ground, Raia, Thursday.
Vasco led 1- 0 at the breather.
Vasco who fielded two foreigners had a number of chances in the first half with Nigerian striker Felix Odili troubling the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
Initially Felix breached the rival defence twice but was unlucky to see his attempts missing the target by a whisker.
Goa Velha hardly had a chance at the rival goal despite captain Sidroy Afonso working tirelessly in the midfield and keeping his forwards busy with fluent passes.
Vasco surged ahead in the 25th minute though Felix.
Midfielder Agnelo Colaco sent in a measured cross inside the rival penalty box. Felix deceived the rival defenders and punted the ball past the rival goalkeeper.
Vasco had a chance to double their lead in the 40th minute but Goa Velha goalkeeper Siddesh Morje parried away Agnelo Colaco’s flag kick. Vasco had yet another chance just before the break but Morje fisted away Agnelo’s rasping shot.
Goa Velha came close to restoring parity after the break, but midfielder Alber Gonsalves’ right- footer missed the mark narrowly off Nester Dias. That scare proved to be the perfect tonic for Vasco as they repeatedly raided the Goa Velha goal. Lezly Fernandes, who was a thorn in the rival defence, unleashed a stiff shot which was acrobatically saved by Morje.
Vasco scored their second goal in the 58th minute when Agnelo punished the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off Jose Colaco.
Vasco had two chances to inflate their tally. First, Goa Velha goalkeeper Morje saved Felix’s blistering shot in the 60th minute and 10 minutes later, Vasco were unlucky when Agnelo’s free kick kissed the crossbar. Substitute Aniket Jadhav drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 81st minute off Jose Colaco.
Goa Velha spurned a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 88th minute when Vasco goalkeeper Agnelo Noronha saved Cliff Fernandes’ penalty kick which was awarded to them by referee Melwyn Costa after Saprem Diukar was brought down by defender Michael Faleiro inside the penalty box.
With this win, Vasco collected seven points from eight matches while Goa Velha are yet to open their account after six matches. [H]
