Vasco temple burgled

 

In a broad daylight robbery, some unknown culprits, on Thursday morning robbed the Shree Sateri temple, located at Chicalim. The thieves entered the temple premises and took away the mangalsutra from the neck of Goddess
 
Sateri.
 
According to information from Vasco police, the mangalsutra is worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. Police said the theft took place sometime between 6.45 a.m. and 7.15 a.m. When the purohit opened the temple in the morning, he saw a woman entering to seek blessings and so he went into an inner room attached to the temple. However, when he returned, he was surprised to see the mangalsutra missing and so also the woman.
 
He immediately intimated the temple committee president, Mr Hari Narayan Gawde, vice-president, Mr Ramakant Naik and secretary, Mr Prashant Pednekar who then filed a police complaint.
 
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vasco, Mr Lawrence D’Souza, Vasco PI, Mr Rupendra Shetgaonkar, police sub-inspectors, Mr Nikhil Palekar and Mr Girendra Naik rushed to the site and started the investigation. 
 
The purohit informed that the woman was known to him and said that she resides somewhere in the naval base. The Vasco police have recorded the statement of the purohit and are in search of the woman.
 
The police in this connection have registered an offence under section 380 of IPC. Police sub-inspector, Mr Girendra Naik is investigating.  [NT]
