Verna beat Dramapur to reach quarter-finals
Verna Sports Club registered a 2-0 victory against Dramapur Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of Wilred Leisure Super Soccer tournament played at DYSA grounds, Curtorim on Wednesday.
Though there was no score in the first half of play, both the teams matched each other well in all the departments of the game.
However, in the second session, Verna were a transformed side as they resorted to short passes and occasional long ball to break the Dramapur rearguard.
Launching several attacks,Verna scored through Maticio Abranches (54th minute) and Santano Rego (60th minute) to register a sweet win and knock out Dramapur from this tournament.
While Verna were strong in defence, their rivals Dramapur appeared to be better in the midfield at least in the first half of play.
Dramapur had an upper hand in launching attacks in the first half as their midfielders went on spraying good passes to their forwards in the upfront but their shots were wayward and as such could not find the goal.
In the second session, Verna changed their strategy and created several goal-bound moves to keep the Dramapur defence on the back foot most of the time.
Verna carried the ball deep inside the rival defence during their period of ascendancy and proved to be superior in their shooting abilities and scored on the opportunities that came their way.
Receiving a good pass, Maticio Abranches had no difficulty in beating the Dramapur keeper David Rebello. Thereafter, Santano Rego found the mark after collecting a pass from the left flank.
Yesterday, Dicarpale SC entered the quarter-finals when they registered a 11-10 victory via the tie-breaker against Chandor SC. [NT]
