Verna police inspector to probe case of negligence


 On directions given by the children's court, the state police have transferred, from Mormugao police station to Verna police inspector, the case of negligence filed against the headmistress and management of the Vasco school where a 7-year-old girl had been raped.
Speaking to TOI, deputy inspector general (DIG) of police O P Mishra said, "Verna police inspector will now investigate the case registered at Mormugao police station in the 7-year-old girls' rape." Mormugao police had registered a case against the headmistress and management of the school.A case was registered against the headmistress and management of the school for failing to ensure safety of students thereby endangering the life and safety of students due to which a minor girl was sexually assaulted.
Police had registered the offence under Section 336 (endangering life of others), 337 (causing hurt by endangering the life of others) read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 8(1) (10) of the Goa Children Act. The complainant in the case is the state.
Mormugao police had already arrested the headmistress of the primary school for negligence and also under relevant sections of the Goa Children's Act.
The court had directed the Vasco DySP to entrust the investigation of the crime to any other officer not below the rank of an inspector. The court also issued directions to the investigating officer to add Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) IPC to the case registered at Mormugao police station and, investigate it. The section has been added.
The court also directed the investigating agency to investigate whether any person or authority has committed or attempted to commit an offence under section 214 (offering gift in consideration of screening the offender) IPC.
Crime branch, which is investing the main case, had added destruction of evidence to the list of offences after it was revealed that the girl was bathed and her clothes washed by the school authorities following the assault on her.
Crime branch had also released a sketch of the accused based on information from the headmistress and victim but till date police have failed to nab the accused. [TOI]
