Vijai: Stop tendering Mopa works till Dabolim land is re-notified

Independent MLA Vijai Sardessai on Saturday demanded that the government stop tendering all works of the Mopa airport unless and until land for the Dabolim airport parking is re-notified.
Sardessai served a month’s deadline on the government to initiate re-notification proceedings before January 1, 2013 and threatened to bring all forces to join hands in a mass movement to save Dabolim airport and thwart BJP’s clandestine plans for an indirect merger of Goa in Maharashtra.
Addressing a joint press conference with Congress spokesman Reginaldo Lourenco, Sardessai warned all the ministers and other MLAs of South Goa, who are part of the ruling dispensation that they should not be mute spectators to the drama that was being played out.
“They should act immediately to protect the interests of the common people, who had voted them to power. People such as Avertano, Alina, Mickky, Benjamin should pressurise Parrikar to act in the interests of Goa and Goans and save Dabolim airport, instead of bowing to the wishes of the Mahrashtra lobby and plotting to promote Mopa at the cost of Dabolim,” he said.
Sardessai said though Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is on record that land will be acquired if required, he should carefully read the affidavit of the Airport Authority of India before the High Court, which clearly states that the de-notified land is the only suitable land for parking. He reminded chief minister that the land in question is not for the government of Goa, but for the AAI, who should have the option and choice of land according to their needs.
Claiming thee more evidence is coming out to show a clear scam in order to benefit the builder, Sardesai said the Chief Minister should explain that a request for “mutation” on September 13, 2012 was immediately acted upon and the land mutated on September 14. “Is this luxury available to ordinary citizens? It appears even before the High Court could deliver the judgment, the builder was fully aware of the stand that the government would take and accordingly, the mamlatdar seems to have been informed to mutate the land,” he charged.
