Vijai takes a dig at food fest

The three-day Goa Saraswat Food Festival organized by the Goa Saraswat Samaj got underway at the BPS Club here on Friday, with MLA Vijai Sardesai demanding that the Tourism Department extend its support to this traditional Goan festival.
“If one goes by media reports, the Sea Food Festival has representation from Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh, where there is no sea at all. Instead of inviting these states, the Parrikar government should have accorded state festival status on the Saraswat festival,” he said after inaugurating the festival.
Sardesai said the festivals such as the Saraswat Food Festival showcases Goa’s rich culture and cuisine and hence ought to be promoted and encouraged by the government.  A host of stalls, including food, have been set up at the BPS club. There were competitions galore on day one and the organizers have planned a series of events during the next two days.
Curtains will come down on the three-day traditional Saraswat festival on Sunday. Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar is expected to attend the closing ceremony.[H]
