Vijai threatens to go ahead with Sri Krishna Vijayotsav
Accusing the police of acting at the behest of politicians in trying to scuttle the Sri Krishna Vijayotsav organized by Fatorda Yuva Shakti on the eve of Diwali at Gogol, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai on Friday warned that Hindu youth from the constituency will go ahead with the event even if the government tries to stop them on one pretext or other.
“Is the government scared that Hindu youth are uniting under a new banner and not under the ruling dispensation”, questioned Sardessai at a press conference, while coming down heavily on the police top brass, including SP, South Shekar Prabhudessai.
He termed the objections raised by the traffic police as an after thought since the police had asked the organizers to obtain NOC from the housing societies. “Now, that NOCs from the societies were obtained promptly, more hurdles were being put to sabotage the program”, he said while reminding Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that Narkasura competitions are being held on the streets of Panjim, Margao, Quepem and elsewhere.
He wondered whether the government was scared that independent MLAs and others would raise hands as in the past and give the government sleepless nights. “I promise to avoid doing this, if this was the actual reason for the government to strangely interfere in a socio-cultural religious event which was not even seeking funds from government”, he said, while demanding to know whether SP Prabhudessai is sent to South Goa to fix government’s political opponents.
Ridiculing the contentions of the Traffic Police, Sardesai said the ineffective Traffic Cell should first solve the perpetual traffic jam problems at peak hours at Nuvem and elsewhere like Old Market, Fatorda, Gogol etc. rather than raising concocted and unjustifiable objections at the behest of defeated ruling politicians.
Bollywood star Om Puri has been invited as the chief guest, while the organizers have promised highest prize money, totalling to Rs three lakh, for the event. [H]
