Vijay wants tendering process of Mopa airport stopped

The Fatorda MLA, Mr Vijay Sardesai, on Tuesday, made a demand to stop the tendering process for Mopa airport till the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar takes a call on the controversial parking land for the Dabolim airport.
While addressing the media, Mr Sardesai also issued January 1 ultimatum to Mr Parrikar to acquire land for parking at Dabolim, failing which, he warned of launching a people’s movement. He also said that the state government had made a commitment to the Civil Aviation Ministry to provide ample land for parking at Dabolim.
Continuing further, M Sardesai said that the Chief Minister should desist from making confusing statements. Alleging that during the last nine months the Chief Minister has made many U-turns, Mr Sardesai said that he has now run out of credible excuses on the issue of land for parking.
"The Dabolim airport is the third largest airport project of Civil Aviation Ministry and is one of the most prestigious projects. The present capacity of the Dabolim airport is 25 million passengers per year but it handles only 3.5 million passengers every year," Mr Sardesai added.
"Providing facilities like parking, warehousing and fuelling is the responsibility of the state government and obviously deliberate process not to provide any of these will only assure the death of Dabolim,"
he maintained.
Mr Sardesai said that MLAs from Salcete should understand the importance of Dabolim airport, economic well-being of South Goa and should publicly voice their opinion on the issue of making land available for developing infrastructure at the Dabolim airport. [NT]
