Wagh committee takes stock, lists out measures

The committee under the St Andre legislator, Vishnu Wagh met Tuesday in the wake of the sexual assault incident at Vasco to take a general overview of the situation and came up with certain suggestions which are to be submitted to the government.
The report is to be submitted to the government by January 25.
The committee which was formed  in 2011, after a student of a city school was allegedly sexually abused by her art teacher and later committed suicide, will investigate the case and present a report with recommendations to the state government, on the overall safety of students in educational institutions and measures to prevent repetition.
“It is very serious. For something like this to happen and also for it to get reported so late, is not good. And the school is supposed to be a good one,” Wagh told media at the fag end of a  more than five-hour meeting.
“We will be giving the final report by the 25th of this month along with the recommendations. Meanwhile, the report is being prepared,” Wagh informed.,.
However, delay in submission of the report had reportedly prompted the Goa State Women's Commission to write a letter to the Director of Education to form committees for the prevention of sexual harassment in all schools in the state. [H]
