Wards mess up hits 3 villages

A decades-old goof up by the State administration has left wards interchanged between three villages in the land revenue records of Canacona taluka.
Believe it or not, five wards of Poinguinim have been inadvertently shown in the land revenue records of Cotigao village, while six wards of Cotigao are mentioned in the land records of Gaondongrim.
“People have been asking authorities for a long time to correct the anomaly, but officials don’t seem to be concerned. As a result, residents encounter various hardships in identifying their villages and are forced to visit both panchayat offices wherever the need arises,” remarked former Cotigao sarpanch Rajesh Gaonkar. “Even the specific changes requested during public scrutiny of RP-2021 have not been incorporated,” he added.
“Since the RP-2021 is yet to be finalised, the government can bring necessary changes and corrections while notifying the RPs for Poinguinim, Cotigao and Gaondongrim,” said Poinguinim Sarpanch Mahesh Naik. [H]
