Panaji: In an effort to protect our natural resources, the wisdom of Goa’s past heritage has to be used in a way that suits the present, said Sujeet Kumar Dongre, programme coordinator of the Centre for Environment Education. He was speaking at a conference on ‘Changing Climates: Evolving Landscapes’ that was held recently in Panaji.
Dongre said anything that happens to the natural resources will have an impact on the sea and earlier, people understood this well. This is why even though modern infrastructure stores water in dams, traditional practices allowed water to flow freely.
“Water cannot be stored. It has energy and needs to flow. We need to gather wisdom of the past and use it in such a way that suits the present. We must ensure our activities help protect our natural resources,” he said. [TOI]
