‘Will power, dedication needed to reach top’


Sangram Chowgule, the body builder from Kolhapur, who did India proud by winning the World body building title in Bangkok, Thailand speaks to The Navhind Times during his brief visit to Goa
MARGAO: Meet Sangram Chowgule – the body builder from Kolhapur – who did India proud by winning the world body building title in Bangkok, Thailand, recently.
Speaking to The Navhind Times, the treasurer of Goa Body Builders Association, Mr Kushali Virdikar stated that this competition was held in Bangkok from December 4-9, adding further that the 33-year-old body builder Sangram was the ultimate champion among the top 12 contenders. He disclosed that an Iranian stood second in this competition, which was also confirmed by Sangram, an electrical engineer by profession.
In a brief chat Sangram told this paper that he is in the state on a 2-day holiday as he loves Goa very much.
Asked what is his advice to the budding body builders from the state, Sangram, said: “One has to be dedicated and do regular practice at least for one and a half to two hours and should have the will power to reach the top.”
Sangram said he is not new to Goa. “Some years back I was in Goa and had become the champion in the body building competition which was held at Ravindra Bhavan.”
He also disclosed that he has started a training centre for body building at Pune adding further that around 80 to 90 boys come at his centre for training adding further that he has been incurring a lot of expenditure on it only with the intention of preparing youngsters for the body building competitions and earn name and fame for them.
Sangram disclosed that he besides lifting the Mr India title on six occasions, has also earned the title of champion of champions in South Asia in the recent past. Now he is the world champion, he disclosed. [NT]
