Will stand by CM, assures birthday boy Avertano

Independent MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado on Thursday said he would prefer to resign from Navelim, but would never withdraw support to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Replying to his felicitation on the occasion of his birthday at Sinquetim-Navelim this evening, Avertano said rumours are being spread in certain quarters that that the Parrikar government is unstable and that he would switch to a new party. “Let me categorically say that I would prefer to resign from Navelim than to leave the Chief Minister. I have given my word to Parrikar that I would never withdraw my support to the government,” he said in the presence of the CM, Deputy CM, Francis D’Souza, Speaker Rajendra Arlekar, his colleagues and MLAs at the birthday celebrations at his residence this evening. Avertano exuded confidence that the CM would usher in development of Navelim constituency. In his address, the CM described Avertano as a thorough gentleman. “I always had an opinion that Salcete is slightly rough. But I have changed my opinion after I saw Avertano,” Parrikar said.

Earlier in the day, speaking at Rumdamol village after inaugurating the Panchayat office, the Fisheries Minister appealed to the people of Navelim to have patience and promised to usher in all round development of the constituency with Parrikar’s support. He also laid the foundation stone for the Davorlim-Nessai four-laning road and a jogging track at Mandopa-Navelim, besides inaugurating a hearse van and mortuary at Sinquetim. [H]
